We are a specialty coffee roaster based in Markham that began with a focus on cold brew coffee. Today, Hatch is a full-service roastery, providing equipment, training, and coffee for independent cafes. Our mission is to spread our love and appreciation for great coffee that is ethically and sustainably sourced. The roasting style we use is influenced by the lighter Scandinavian/Nordic roasters. As such, the quality of coffee is paramount when roasting lightly so we often source high-quality rare varietals and experimentally processed coffees.

Interview with Alfonso Tupaz, Founder of Hatch Coffee
LCG Foods sat down with the Founder & CEO, Alfonso Tupaz, and asked him some questions to better understand the brand's mission, core values, and other topics that we thought our retail partners might want to know.

What motivated you to start your company and create the products that we see today? After moving back to Canada from Africa in 2014, I wanted to do something innovative in the coffee space - a passion I developed while living and working abroad.
What are your company’s core values?
What are some challenges you've had to overcome to bring your business to its current state? Coffee is a highly competitive industry with very low barriers to entry. With rising costs and overheads, we’ve had to be really scrappy to survive the past 9-10 years. That took innovation, diversification and persistence. Today, all our business units are thriving and we have the added benefit of having a strong diversified foundation.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? There is no outside of work. When you do what you love, everything is intertwined - work just becomes part of life, in a good way.
