What is the ‘key ingredient’ that makes your product line special? 

Our favourite plant-based protein, beans, as well as upcycled ingredients to reduce food waste.

What motivated you to start your company and create the products that we see today? 

When we first started Remix Snacks, we were studying Nutrition at McGill University. At that time, we were learning more about the food industry and saw 2 major problems around us: the abundance of food waste in Canada, and the lack of nutrient-rich yet good-tasting snacks. There was a start-up pitch competition happening at around the same time, and we saw it as the perfect opportunity to give a go at creating a solution for these problems, and enter the competition to seek validation and support for our mission. 

What aur company’s core values?

Nutrient-Rich: As dietitians, it’s important to us to provide as many nutrients as possible for our consumers, especially as more people replace meals with snacks.

Reduce Food Waste: Conquering food waste is no easy feat, but we believe that every action makes a difference. By using upcycled ingredients in our snacks, we help divert food waste to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Diversity: Our company being female-founded, we want to show other female entrepreneurs that they can also follow their passions and succeed in the industry.

If you could tell a retailer three things about what makes your brand different, what would they be?

1. Created by Canadian-Asian, female dietitians.

2. Uses beans to create delicious snacks with more protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

3. Uses upcycled ingredients to reduce food waste. 

What are some challenges you've had to overcome to bring your business to its current state?

Being young, Asian, female founders in the food industry can be extremely daunting. Especially coming from a science background, starting Remix Snacks as a business was nothing we had ever experienced before, or could even imagine experiencing. We taught ourselves how to pitch and build a business plan and networked our way through the entrepreneurial and food industry, all while being students transitioning to new graduates. Thankfully, we found a supportive community of mentors and fellow entrepreneurs that made this experience all the more worthwhile and exciting!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Isabelle: My passion outside of Remix Snacks is running, and I can be found training for my next marathon or triathlon. The adrenaline from running and competing parallels that of building a business! I’m also a huge foodie, and I love trying new recipes and restaurants in the food scene.

Jamie: Outside of work, I like to be out and about and away from the screen! I like to shop for home decor, visit restaurants, try new food around my neighbourhood and play badminton with friends.
